What a Concierge Security Officer Does
A front desk is a building’s first impression and its first point of control. Concierge security combines the two: an officer who greets residents and tenants by name and answers their questions, while knowing exactly who is in the lobby, who is expected and who is waiting for someone to come down.
Vantage places front desk security officers in residential towers and condominiums, multi-tenant office lobbies, medical office buildings and mixed-use properties with shops at street level. The post is run to suit the building, whether the lobby is formal and quiet or a busy counter with a steady stream of visitors.
Done well, concierge security feels like hospitality to the people who live and work in the building, and like a closed door to anyone without a reason to be there.
Visitor Sign-In and Badges
Every guest goes through the same sign-in, whether the desk uses a paper log, a tablet or your building’s visitor system. The officer records the name, the host and the arrival time, calls up to the resident or tenant, and issues a visitor badge or elevator access only once the host says yes.
Contractors and vendors are checked against the work schedule from property management. A technician with no ticket or a mover with no reservation waits in the lobby while the officer reaches the manager on call. At departure, badges come back and the log is closed, so the end-of-day record shows who is still in the building.
Deliveries and Couriers
Package volume can swamp a lobby. The officer logs couriers and food delivery drivers, keeps them at the desk unless your rules allow them upstairs, and stores parcels in the package room with a record of who signed for each one. Residents and tenants collect with the same care, signing at pickup.
Freight elevator bookings, loading zones and move-ins run through the desk as well, so the officer knows when to hold the freight elevator, open the dock door and keep the lobby clear during a large delivery.
Front Desk Security After Hours
Evenings and overnights are when a staffed desk matters most. Once the property manager leaves, the officer becomes the building’s point of contact: letting in a resident who forgot a fob, stopping tailgaters at the door, answering the intercom and calling the right vendor when an alarm panel sounds or a leak shows up in the garage.
Between visitors, the officer walks the lobby, mail room, garage entrances and amenity floors on a set schedule and logs each round. Quieter buildings can pair an evening desk with mobile patrol visits after midnight.
Overnight shift notes give the morning manager a clear picture of the night: who came and went, which vendors were called, which doors were found open and what still needs follow-up.
Post Instructions for Your Building
Every lobby runs on its own rules, so service starts with a walkthrough alongside your property or facilities manager. The written instructions cover the visitor process, package rules, which doors lock at what time, the call list for each part of the day and the tone you want at the desk.
Our post orders checklist lists the questions worth settling first, and the coverage hours planner helps decide which hours the desk is staffed.
The Officers Behind the Desk
Each concierge security officer holds a BSIS guard card and passes a background check before taking the desk. Supervisors make quality inspections, comparing the log with the instructions, and management receives a certificate of insurance when service begins. Shift reports list visitors, deliveries, rounds and any open items for the day team, with photos where they help.
Concierge Security Pricing
On-site security officers at a front desk are billed per guard-hour, from $36 to $50 an hour depending on the city and the schedule. A full-time desk is priced by the hours you staff each day, and the cost calculator turns that schedule into a monthly range.
