Dispensary Security Duties
A dispensary runs on a steady flow of customers, product and deliveries, and all of it passes through a few doors. Vantage guards hold those doors. The guard is the first person a customer meets and the last one on the floor at closing, which puts security where the store’s daily routine is most exposed.
Coverage fits the store: one guard at the entrance through business hours, a second through the evening rush and weekends, or a post that opens and closes the building alongside your managers.
Entrance and ID Checks
The guard checks each customer’s identification at the door the way your store’s entry policy lays out, confirms the age on the card and gives anyone without valid ID a polite, firm answer. Medical customers, adult-use customers and pickup orders are pointed to the right line or counter.
Inside the entrance, the guard watches the sales floor from a fixed position, applies your house rules on bags and backpacks and keeps the vestibule from crowding. A customer who grows upset at the counter is met calmly, and the guard brings in the manager before things build.
Queue and Parking Lot Watch
Lines form on product release days, holidays and Friday evenings. The guard keeps the queue orderly along the storefront, leaves the sidewalk clear for neighboring businesses and moves along loitering and consumption near the entrance and in the lot. Neighbors notice how a store’s line behaves, and a guard who keeps it tidy and quiet helps the storefront stay on good terms with the block.
Out in the parking lot, the guard watches parked cars, the walk from the door to the car and anyone lingering with no reason to be there. Stores in shared retail centers often add regular lot walks so the guard can see the far rows and the back of the building.
Opening, Closing and Deliveries
The first and last half hour of the day are when managers most want an officer beside them. At opening, the guard walks the exterior, checks the front and rear doors and stays with staff as they unlock. At closing, the guard clears the floor, locks the front door behind the last customer and walks staff to their cars.
Inbound product deliveries and outbound delivery drivers use the back door on a schedule. The guard confirms each driver against the expected list, keeps the door shut between loads and notes every arrival and departure in the shift log, while store staff take care of the product and the paperwork.
Overnight Patrol Checks
After closing, mobile patrol visits check the storefront, rear doors, roll-up gates and lighting through the night. Each visit is logged with photos, and anything that needs attention reaches the manager first thing in the morning.
Stores weighing cameras against officers can compare the two in our guide to security guards or remote video monitoring.
Your Store Rules in the Post Instructions
Each store runs on its own operating procedures. Vantage writes the guard’s post instructions from them: the ID process, bag rules, the call list, the opening and closing steps and the signal staff use to call the guard over. A walkthrough with the store manager sets the posts and the hours, and supervisors return for quality inspections that check the log against those instructions.
Officers hold BSIS guard cards and clear background checks before placement. Vantage officers are unarmed, which keeps the entrance welcoming for regular customers. The store receives a certificate of insurance before the first shift, and service runs month to month.
Dispensary Security Pricing
On-site security guards are billed at $36 to $50 per guard-hour depending on the city, the hours and the number of posts, and overnight patrol checks at $2 to $3 a minute with a five-minute minimum per visit. The cost calculator gives a monthly range for your store hours.

Common questions
Will the guard check every customer’s ID?
Yes. The guard checks ID at the door following your store’s entry policy and directs each customer to the right line.
Can a guard stay through closing and walk staff to their cars?

What happens on busy release days?
A second guard can work the queue and the lot while the first stays at the door, so the line moves and the entrance stays clear.

Each patrol visit is logged with the time, the doors checked and photos, and the report goes to the store manager.
What do dispensary security guards cost per hour?
